Our small town is nestled on the rim of the volcano Quilotoa and just a short hike from the famous emerald-green lake at the bottom of the volcano's crater. The unique high-altitude environment in which we live (about 3,900 meters or nearly 2 1/2 miles above sea level) provides a variety of opportunities for exploring the stark beauty of the Andes mountains. Hostería Alpaca provides a comfortable and friendly base for your adventure - and we provide healthy breakfasts and dinners, so you don't need to worry about getting hungry out on the trail! We also offer trekking guide services for hikes around the rim of the crater, to the Cueva del Inca, a long the canyon of the Rio Toachi, or to neighboring communities like Chugchilán and Tigua. Horse rentals are available from the hostel or you can rent kayaks and mountain bikes from Quilotoa's communal tourism organization.

It's easier than ever to get to Quilotoa! If you have your own car, simply follow the Latacunga-Quevedo highway to Zumbahua. Turn off the main highway and drive through Zumbahua; we are about 12 km from Zumbahua along the newly paved road to Chugchilán. If you are traveling by bus, simply ask in the main bus terminal in Latacunga for a bus that will drop you off right at our front door.
